Austria narrowly won a seat in the UN Security Council Friday, UN diplomats said that Vienna was fortunate that only one State confused between Austria and Australia.
Austria won, which will occupy a non-permanent seats on the Security Council during the period 2009/2010 to 133 votes in the General Assembly, consisting of 192, more than five votes only on the required two-thirds majority, which amounts to 128 votes.
While most of the votes went in the other group to Turkey and Iceland voted in favor of one of Australia, which were not compete for a seat on the Security Council. UN diplomats said that the most likely explanation for this mysterious voice is that they were confused between the two countries because of similarities in language spelling English.
But they said he could not rule out the possibility that an innocent joke or attempt to harass the Austrians.
